Vienna and Bratislava have a longstanding historical tradition and links. However, as far as Ingress is concerned there are some substantial differences as Bratislava is dominated by Enlightened, whereas Vienna is quite balanced. Therefore we wanted to offer both capitals the pleasure of a blue sky.
Our intention was to show that the Resistance in this region is well connected over country borders and able to carry out operations mainly based on local agents. Planning, deploying and cleaning activities have been carried out completely by local agents from their respective countries and in most cases also by agents within their respective region.
In the early stages two options were considered with a single field versus a double field layout. For practical and aesthetical reasons the double field layout was chosen. Further the final form shows the close connections of the two capitals.
The corner portals where carefully selected as to leave local activities undisturbed as much as possible. Local Resistance groups and agents have been contacted and most of them happily offered their support. About 8 days before the planned date most linking activities have been carried out leaving the intended link corridors open. A few fake links had been set on purpose.
A couple of sweeping operations have been carried out in the corridors to test reaction time and to clean up. On link day both east corridors were clean and under control by slovak and hungarian agents. In Austria local resistance teams had to finally clean up the corridors. No substantial problems were encountered. The planned link time of 21:00 hours straight was missed by 12 minutes mainly due to heavy fog and low visibility in some areas.
The first field over Vienna has been established from the north portal. Within a few minutes a second field over Vienna has been established from the south. Next step has been the creation of the double layer in the east to Slovakia.
Enlightened agents have been very swift in their reaction. Within the hour an agent showed up at the inner field over Vienna and jarvised the portal. A few mintues later the south portal was also jarvised and the field fell. Some time later both the north and west portal were taken.
